Westlake was founded in 1974 by the late Lim Tong Law. He was born in China ( Hokkien), but brought over to Singapore by his parents.

Westlake was founded in 1974 by the late Lim Tong Law. He was born in China ( Hokkien), but brought over to Singapore by his parents. He went back to his birth place to study when he was twelve years young. In the time he spent there, he traveled widely throughout China and studied in several places. Before World War II broke out, he came back to Singapore and taught physical education in Hwa Chong College ( named Chinese High School then) for more than two decades.
The late Lim Tong Law loved to cook. He loved to cook because of his passion for good food, which passion had motivated him to learn and experiment the recipes of the Specialty dishes he tasted in various places of China. While he was still a teacher, it was a weekly routine where on Sunday, he would cook his special dishes and invited his friends to his house to taste. This gave him great pleasure and satisfaction as most of them including his family members appreciated and praised his culinary skill.
It was with this wide knowledge on foods; he was able to offer dishes from throughout China when he started Westlake 30 years ago.
Today, the children of the late Lim Tong Law continued to run Westlake with the same strategic formula—“ Sichuan, Hokkien, Cantonese” cuisines, serving under one roof” and have managed to win a couple of Excellent Food Awards. Westlake was nominated one of the Great Tables of Singapore in year 2003.
Westlake was also one of the pioneers in Outside Buffet Catering with wide variety of restaurant food menu. Today, the Catering service continued with timely delivery, quality service and good foods.
At Westlake, the Motto is "Quality Foods, Warm and Friendly Service, Economical Pricing".
